detuned LTs for the camaro?
today at my work my boss (a corvette proud owner) told me for some reason every motor the camaro gets from the corvette get detuned or downgraded... according to him the LT1, LS1 and LS3 in the camaro are less powerfull compared to the same engines in the corvette so not surprise if the LT1 come with 443 instead of the 45x hp or the LT4 come with a smaller blower... anyway why GM do this? its just to protect the corvette so the camaro cant be faster by any means? or there is a logical reason behind this
don't get me wrong I love camaros as always but after he told me this I feel a bit down about the camaro... it look like GM thinks of it as the cliche side-kick of the corvette... we are the robins in this relationship!

Well yeah, the Corvette is the halo car. Considering the price jump from a Camaro to a Corvette, it is going to have a higher rating. At least that had always been the thinking.
Going back to 90's for instance, the Corvette got the LT1 with a four bolt main and rated at 300hp, the Camaro, two bolt main at 275 IIRC. The LS1 versions, the Vette was at 350 and Camaro at 308, with the SS coming in a little higher. Even the LS3 Camaro gives up a whopping 10hp to the Vette. But would argue that it's more than prestige that figures into this difference. Chevy sells a lot more of the Camaro to a much wider market. The Camaro is the one that is more often going to be used by the owner as a daily driver. More cars logging more miles means that in the interest of warranty obligations, they are likely to be a little more conservative on the tuning. |

Doesn't the LS7 in the Z/28 have more torque than the LS7 in the Z06.

And the LS3 in the C6 and Gen 5 Camaros was the same, wasn't it? Only detuned in my SS Sedan :( to 415

I'm not worried about it being rated 10hp less. Anyway, the Camaro wouldn't perform as well even if it had the same power. LS3 in the Camaro is rated almost the same as the LS3 in the C6 Vette. Could be just a rating thing in that case anyway.

In the past, it has usually been just a matter of a slightly hotter cam profile and a bit more advance in the ECU. Examples: LS1 in C5 vs F-Body, 4.6 DOHC Northstar in DTS vs DHS

Also routing of intake and exhaust can make a difference of a few HP with the same engine.

Detuned-no(not factoring any of that L99/LS3 mess with the 5th gens)
More efficeint exhaust and intake between the 2- yes. That is your HP # difference. In fact, for example....often the LS1 Fbody cars dyno'ed HIGHER than the Corvette. Corvette will be faster, regardless due to a more effecient drivetrain and mostly, because of its lighter weight.

I doubt they will actually change the engine internals, but as mentioned above, they may revise it due to exhaust and intake restrictions.

The differences in cam profile were negligible. Dyno results showed the F Body LS1 and Vette LS1 were much closer in power then GM advertised.
