Warranty negotiation/compensation.
Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, or belongs elsewhere, I couldn't find anything dedicated to the idea.
My '16 SS, like others I have read about on this board, has some factory paint issues. Aside from a casual mention of it to my service writer, and a GM customer satisfaction Rep, the issue is not "on the record" yet. Basically, there are at least 3 small to medium-sized "dull spots" at PRECISELY the same level on the right side of the vehicle. It appears that perhaps something may have been transferred from the machinery that handles the body panels to the steel itself, and not completely removed before the car was primed and painted. A perfect, unmarred clear coat is visible over the color coat, so I think there's little doubt that it happened at the factory. These blemishes were completely missed when I took delivery of the car, and they are only really visible under dim or florescent lighting. I asked a good friend who once was a body/paint manager for a Cadillac store what my options were, and he told me that they would either warranty the paint job and repaint the car, or offer some compensation in return. He pointed out that any paint work done under warranty would be farmed out to a local body and paint shop, and that the overall quality of the work would likely be inferior to the prep/paint from the factory (aside from the problem spots) So, I feel like I am stuck between two undesirable options here. I know that plenty of folks on this board have had to deal with paint issues under warranty. What was your experience? Were you offered, or did you consider accepting some compensation in lieu of repaint? What were your experiences? What forms of compensation are reasonable to expect? I want to go into this process prepared. Thanks. |

I have found every body shop I work with to be better than factory paint. I would just have them repaint the whole panel. They can match it these days, computers mix the paint and match the color fine.

I've had several areas that were blemished, looked like a dirty rag was left on the car, but one was on a vertical panel. Could only see in the right light/angle. Tried various cleaners, and wax/polishes didn't help. Had some 3m swirl removal compound (not cheap) Tried it and worked perfect. It's a clear coat very gentle rubbing compound.
I did it myself rather than go through the far away dealer. If they are handy I would have them try to remove without painting. |

For every 30 days they've kept your car away from you, push for them to make a payment on your loan. After all, that is what you've actually lost that the loaner car didn't cover while they repaired your vehicle.
Just be glad they are fixing your problems and not giving you the finger like a lot of us. |

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I am going to take it back in after I go to Vegas in a couple weeks, and let them have another go at my rear deck vibration and headliner. I'll start the ball rolling on the paint while I am there.
