Bird Poop

I am certain this has been discussed before, but what is the best product to remove bird poop ASAP when traveling? I had etching occur today on my hood just 4 hours after it landed! Thanks

Time is your biggest hurdle with this kind of stuff, second only probably to heat as that speeds things up.

The sooner you can remove it the better. My process using a diluted bottle of our Rinse-Free Wash & Wax:

  1. Set sprayer to stream and use that to knock loose the chunks (gross! )
  2. Once the bigger stuff is loose, switch to spray/mist and saturate the entire area.
  3. Using a clean, towel gently do one swipe with no pressure in one straight line over the area.
  4. Flip towel, saturate area again, and repeat until all of bird bomb is removed.

Replied to your email Danny, but I'll share with everyone else here too:

Waterless Wash is your best option when you are on the road. They key is getting it off the surface as quickly as possible! It doesn't take long at all for etching to occur, especially in the summer sun when the panel is hot.

Taking care of etching will almost always require polishing. Once you get home, try clay barring the area first, you may have some luck with that if it's still superficial and hasn't etched in too far.

If claying doesn't take care of it, then it's time to polish, either by hand or with a machine.

Water in a squeegie bottle (you can add a little car soap), and a cotton towel. I deal with this every day.

Most bird poop has sand in it, make sure you soak it till it's good and wet before you wipe off. I learned the hard way on another vehicle...scratched the shit out of my paint.

Yes! Good point... most birds do eat small pebbles or bits of sand to help with digestion. Also figure the stuff they're eating (bugs and whatnot) have crispy parts that can also be a part of that mix and very abrasive.
