Question for my fellow manual drivers out there
I'm curious if its the same on all Camaro's or if they vary from car to car. Where's your clutches engagement point? For me, if you think of a clock, 12 being all the way off the clutch and 6 being all the way to the floor, mine is at 1. I cant for the life of me understand why its that high up. I almost routinely kill the car because of where the bite point is. Even having Bee for 7 months now, I havent gotten fully use to it. Well, seeing is how I'm rarely there to drive him, may be a large reason why.
Just curious as to where other drivers bite point is at in their car. Last edited by dantemcc; 06-11-2015 at 06:00 PM. |

I think maybe 1/3 of the way depressed it engages?

I think mine engaged at somewhere around 1/4 to 1/3 depressed. My bigger gripe is was the clutch travel between no engagement and fully engaged. For the majority of the pedal travel nothing happens then when it starts to engage there was only the slightest bit of travel until it was fully engaged. It took a lot of getting used to.

I understand what you mean. Getting out of first and into second is never a smooth and easy transition. I've tried as many different techniques from shifting from first to seconds as I know and none of them work. I cant get it to go completely smooth at all. There's always that little jolt once I come off it regardless of whatever rpm's I'm at. Reve matching doesnt do a thing either. I dont get it.

my release point is very high as well...takes a while to get used to it. as far as the shift from 1st to 2nd, low rpm's and a smooth foot on the accelerator will take car of the jolt. that also takes a while to get used to.

Took me a long time to get used to it but I'm new to manual as well. I'd say I've been driving for 5months total now between last season and this one. I no longer stall it but do notice that the engagement distance is quite short (off and then suddenly on). So the biggest thing I had to learn was to just be more gentle and slow with it. At first it helped to keep my heel on the floor and just pivot my foot and let the pedal slide along the bottom of my show so I could control it slower. Now my leg is strong enough to move it right.
BTW, my dealership buddy told me that there was a TSB for our pedal. Mine was not returning to the full back position after engaging it sometimes and can wear the clutch. So they change it out with the ZL1 pedal as a fix. As soon as I got it back, it seemed easier for me to engage it for some reason. J |

Ugh! Same here, glad I am not the only one, going from first to second is a pain in the a$$. I purchased the Ram Hydraulic Pedal Adjuster kit so I can adjust the engagement point of the clutch and reduce the travel time. I haven't installed it yet, but looking forward to it!

it's so you can switch gears fast. The further you have to push the clutch to engage it, the longer it takes to complete the gear change.

Mine sometimes clunks between 1st & 2nd but not always. I find that once the fluid temperatures are up she's smooth as silk. As you guys are all saying; it takes some getting used to - especially as the stick is in my right hand & not the usual left in the UK (cos as you guys know- y'all drive on the wrong side of the road over there.......)

It had been years (17) since I had driven a stick, and the last car was a 4 cylinder nissan sentra. I've been starting in 2nd gear lately, unless I'm on a hill (after reading some suggestions on the forum). Maybe you can try doing this to avoid cutting off or jerking. You will have to give it just a little more gas, but it beats the embarrassment of cutting off at a stop light for me.

Yeah, the engagement point is up pretty high on the pedal travel on mine too, takes some getting used to. If I'm getting a lot of jerky shifts, I'll try to only depress the pedal a little bit, instead of pushing it all the way to the floor, to change gears. It actually seems to help to make things a little smoother.
