Hennessey Twin Turbo Ford GT Sets New Texas Mile Record

246.8 mph is the new record for the Texas Mile (for cars running on the Chase Field runway in Beeville). Congrats to owner Mark Heidaker and driver Sean Kennedy. I think that the car has a bit more in it. We will see.

Wouldn't doubt it petering out at around 275.. change out the 5.4 for a new 5.8 and who knows what these cars can do.

Ford needs to bring back the GT and put the energy they put into the GT500 back into that car. Vipers and Vettes need that third party to bring a US Triumvirate back to GT class racing..

It seems like the GT has no limits. Thanks to Hennessey for the new record.

Can someone explain to me why they're called "GT"? Isn't "GT" grand tourer, or cars that are basically good for long road trips? In other words, Camaro and Mustangs are "GTs" because they're comfortable and have usable trunk space etc. All out sports cars like a Corvette and especially the Ford GT (which has almost no trunk space) would not be "GT" cars?

I believe that the name was derived from the racing series the car was designed/engineered to compete in back in the '60's, not for reasons modern cars receive the GT designation.

They do soft starts when doing a Texas mile. The goal is not to finish as fast as possible but to finish going as fast as possible.
