This car is much faster than I thought, vs modded 5.0
So this kid I know with a modded 5.0 Gt performance pack, Lund e85 tune, catback exhaust and jlt intake had been wanting to run my new SS for a while and I kept telling him no that I wanted to get my break in done first. Well there was a street racing made safe event where you can roll race and I finally gave in and said we can run. We both agreed 40-100 since I didn't want to push the car too hard and I figured that would be more than enough to beat me since he made 430whp with his mods. Well we ran it 40 roll 2nd gear and I let go after 100 and was a bumper length ahead. I really thought I'd be losing by at least 2 car gaps but guess this SS A8 is way faster than I thought. Thought you guys would enjoy!

This new Camaro SS does run great, IMO for a 5.0 to beat it, it would need FI not just a couple of bolt ons. The Camaro is the fastest DD or Street car.
On the other side, those 5.0s love FI and can take a hole lot more psi than the LT1 before needing major mods, so it could be the fastest Drag car. |

A full bolt on and e85 5.0 will walk all over a stock 6gen.
CAI and 91/93 pump tune wont do it. E85 tune they will run about even with a stock SS. About like you experienced. Plenty of 5.0s running high 11's with e85 and light bolt ons. Give the SS some e85 and gain 35rwhp and see what happens. Mod for mod NA SS>5.0 from every angle. FI the 5.0 has a slight edge. |

OP 2nd gear pull from 30 or 40 mph is nasty on A8

Yeah if he was running E85 he definitely should have won the race, but then again its manual vs auto and that A8 is doing a great job.

Well if it's from a roll, manual and auto isn't that big of a diff.. from a dig yeah, manuals are tricky to launch.
Had another member from the Mustang forum, bolt-ons, E85 tune and he did edge out a stock SS. He also said that the GT has to be modified to compete or win.. stock for stock it's game over for the 5.0's. |

I have to laugh at E85, MPG is like what 12 MPG... who cares how fast when you gotta stop off at the fill station every few days.. Realistically a street car that is only fast on fuel it never runs on the street is of no interest to me. Might as just as well say N20 injection.. except it is actually more realistic to run N20 on the street.

Well I can tell you, since we own multiple of all these cars.....the Camaro is by far faster in OEM form.
So it definitely does not surprise me one bit. The Coyote engines perform well with mods, no doubt, but it takes most of the bolt-ons available WITH a really good tune to out run this new Camaro in stock form. On the road course, the Camaro also crushes the Mustang. Luckily, we have all these cars here at BMR to use for testing On that note, I have a very fast 2015 Mustang myself. I have put off acquiring the Camaro in hopes of possibly getting a 10spd automatic....but it would be awesome to mod a new Camaro in the same fashion I have modded my S550 Mustang and see which one comes out on top! |
