Uh-oh....Ford's in Trouble#SteeringWheelPopsOff
Ha. looks like another reason not to own a FORD. AKA. Found on Road Dead. Steering wheels are coming off. 1 person already died because of it. Can you imagine doing 75mph down the highway and your steering wheel just..pops off. what do you do lol

I think you read that list wrong.. GM had the highest recall rate of any manufacturer.
Don't forget about this lil guy, 174 deaths https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.785d3142f06a

Shidt happens with any car builder. The nut probably loosens over time or either incorrectly torqued to spec. at the factory. The fact is they will fix it.

So the "Loose nut behind the wheel" theory is finally validated by Ford. No surprise.
Imagine the horror of the two meanings being combined at a Mustang cars and coffee, for instance...lol |

Bolt was to short to begin with holding steering wheel in place. Vehicles are being reported needing be sent back to Dealer to replace it with a Longer Bolt...unbelievable.

That, of course, means little to me. Recalls happen, and it's how you deal with them that counts. Honestly I think they all fail in that aspect because they likely won't own up to a serious problem until forced (usually when people start to sue or die).

But it was a self-inflicted wound. Long before the days of Cars & Coffee, I had a ‘76 Mustang Cobra. Blue with white stripes. 302 V8, 4 speed manual. My best friend had the exact same car, but white with blue stripes. We both worked at Buick ...but I digress. I say it was a self-inflicted wound, because one of the mods I made was to replace the stock steering wheel with a small diameter leather wrapped steering wheel. At some point the nut worked itself loose and the wheel came off in my hands. Don’t remember how fast I was going, but I’m sure it wasn’t 75 mph. But still, scary as hell. I just shoved the wheel back on and leaned into it to maintain downward pressure until I could get it home and fix the installation.

A few years back a we watched a super late model come out of turn four at the start of a feature and the wheel came off. He crossed over into two other cars and right over the inside guardrail. People said they could see him trying to steer it with the wheel in his hand not attached to anything. Just glad no one was hurt. He made a huge saftey check mistake by not pulling hard on the wheel after clicking it on. Maybe Ford owners will need to start pulling on the wheel before going out. Lol
