About Painting Wheels At Body Shop
Basically I got 2 questions:
1. Does painting the wheels at a body shop void the warranty? 2. What's the normal price for painting the wheels? Thanks you. |

If you plan to do a lot of driving, racing, etc you may want to consider getting them custom powder coated instead. It is more durable. I got mine custom powder coated to match my car & love them.

called dealer and the price they offer is 670 in total, which is ridiculous. however one of my friend got his wheels painted at a local body shop and the price was 40 per wheel.

Don't paint, powedercoat. Is much more durable and doesn't flake or run or chip as easily.
Not much more than painting and you can do any sort of color you can think of just like painting. |

I wouldn't focus too much on painting wheels at a body shop. I would focus more on finding someone that can power coat the wheels.

I wouldnt paint or plasti dip. Stick with quality = powdercoat. I had paint before, it chips easy, plasti dip looks like junk after a while.

I plasti dip painted my wheels and then used a clear over the top. I have done other wheels using plasti-dip first, then using paint on top to see the color on the car. Removed it and tried another shade again. There are plenty of youtube vids showing how to do it. Now I like powdercoating as well if it is permanent and its a higher quality appearance. If your trying to cover up some ugly surface finish or want to try something different go plasti-dip. You want OEM or car show quality you going to pay to play.

what color are you trying to paint them? Yes if they painted or powdercoated, I'm sure that will void the warranty on the wheels. But I don't think anybody has warranty issues with wheels anyhow.
OEM wheels are almost always powdercoated. Much better quality over painting. If you get them painted and it's bare aluminum, make sure you ask them to use some sort of adhesion promoter (like Bulldog). I re-clearcoated some wheels and used Bulldog and it looks great. However, I would just plastidip them. Even though it don't hold up as long, you can re-do them or change different colors without much work. Plus you can always remove it if you want to return to stock. And you keep your warranty to boot. |

I would think Painting or PCing them would void the Warranty on the Wheel Finish, but you would have altered them anyway, so it doesn't matter.
Plasti-Dip is OK especially if trying to see if you like a particular color. If PowderCoating be careful to ask a lot of questions of your PowderCoater. PowderCoating Aluminum Wheels needs to be done with a Low Temperature Powder and needs to be "Cooked" at a lower Temperature (I believe it is 450 degrees max). If you cook aluminum at a normal PowderCoat Temp (our ovens are at 750 degrees) you can alter the aluminum alloy |
