You're completely right. Each combination requires government-approved ratings for fuel economy and emissions.
Of course, several engines could be justified by marketing and profitability reports.
This is just imagination here. For the next generation, let's imagine a lineup:
- LS—V6
- LT—2.0L turbo with better torque curve or optional V6
- SS—LT1 (6.2L V8) or optional twin turbo V6 with similar power
- Z/28—LT2? (high-output LT1 with hot cam, different tune, shorty headers)
- ZL1—LT4 (6.2L supercharged V8)
These are options we've discussed on the forum, and would compete nicely with Ford's offerings, including a turbo 4-banger and EcoBoost. That's 6 engines on 1 car all released in different phases of the next Camaro's lifecycle.
