In the U.S., the Mustang is the Camaro's major competitor, so the powertrain options in each vehicle obviously influence each other.

I suspect that GM's current love affair with 4-bangers will indeed extend to the next Camaro... but I do agree with those here don't see a lot of demand for a 4-cylinder Camaro. Camaro buyers seem pretty happy with V6/V8 options, so why mess with success?

On the other hand, I look at what they've done with the new Impala... replacing the base V6 with the sluggish 2.5 four... and jacking up the price. Of course, maybe that's not a good comparison, as perhaps GM thinks Impala buyers are unconcerned with performance.
I had NO IDEA they did this. I just assumed a car that large would have a V6. That thing must be a boat anchor.
