I've been running the 1 7/8 headers with the stock sparkplugs. I can't remember which side but one of the spark plug boots will touch one of the headers causing it to melt a bit. However it doesn't melt completely through. I just wrapped the actual wires to play it safe. I've had them like that for about 16,xxx miles or so and still no issues.
Two things to look out for, 1) USE the steering shaft bolt that TSP provides and 2) be careful with the wiring harness on the on the passenger side. At least I think it was the passenger side. It will touch the headers which caused me some other issues.
Other then that I love the TSP headers. I received them within a few days and they sound great. Best bang for your buck. Good look with the install!
