They've never said that....
What they have said - is that it's important to embody the spirit of Camaro in the design...it has to LOOK the part, otherwise - it's no good. They've also commented on the difficulty of this challenge...trying to maintain or improve on the effect of the 5th generation's design is going to be an intimidating job.
But Tom Peters (design head-honcho) is a great man - he'll do the car justice and then some, I have no doubt!
