Actually I have a car that has a double clutch transmission, and if you put the car in 'D' mode, it feels exactly like a quality automatic transmission. The performance of the transmission depends on what sport mode that you put the car in, and if you just leave it in the standard mode, rather than a sport mode and/or shift with paddles, it drives like an automatic. Perhaps it is a matter of semantics - the car itself does feel like it is performing like a standard/manual transmission (aside from the fact that it shifts much quicker than the driver could), but the experience of driving while on the phone and drinking a cup of coffee is like an automatic, as in hands-off.
