Sorry to hear about that man but I can say I've been there and know exactly what you're going through. You have three choices really.
First Choice, let the dealer tear into the motor and diagnose the knock (btw shouldnt take 6-12hrs) and allow them to repair the knock which I believe the repair comes with a 1year/12,000mile warranty.
Second Choice, Buy a crate motor through GM (This is what I did) and allow the dealer to replace the motor completely which comes with a 3year/100,000 mile warranty.
Third Choice, find a reputable engine build shop in your area that can do the V6 work (cheapest option) no added warranty

General Crate motor Cost without labor: $4,399.97

Even the motor repair by the dealer is upwards of $3k
