I think you're 100% right.....and furthermore, they wouldn't appear in pictures if they were anything but that.
Still - it's very interesting to see where GM Design's head is at now and again. The stingray concept hinted at a very complex, sculpted vision for the Corvette....and that what we got - though it shared almost nothing directly with that car...the "vision" was the same.
