Magnesium costs about 50% more than Aluminum. I just don't want to have to hear a lot of complaints when people get sticker shock. It also kinda can catch fire and burn up an entire car. They make fireworks out of that nifty metal.

Seems as the
autoignition temperature of magnesium ribbon is approximately 473 °C (746 K;
883 °F) good luck getting it to burn in anything being used in vehicle applications. The powered or shaved form is much easier to burn, but that's not what's being used here.
