I have also read that, even with the proposed fix, that the cars in question will still not be emissions legal within California. So, there's a bunch of California VW owners with a rather large, actionable, issue to resolve.

VAG as a whole is so large that I doubt the company itself will go away entirely, but the VW brand? Yeah, they're in some real trouble, not just in the U.S., though I wouldn't be surprised to see them withdraw from the U.S.

My understanding is that some of the Audi A3's are impacted by this too. No idea of the numbers there.
And Skoda and maybe SEAL (not as familiar with them). I think almost all Skoda vehicles have the common-rail TDI engines.
