F1 cars are not automatics at all sir. They are a dual clutch type manual transmission with paddle shifters. This is the big misunderstanding. A dual clutch transmission, like many of the foreign sports car manufacturers use is not an automatic in the sense of what we have in many american cars and trucks. The only similarity is that it does not have a clutch pedal as far as I know. I am all for a dual clutch transmission, but I do not think GM can do it for a sub $40K car.
