They said they used the revised 8spd because it matched the 2.7 better but I suspect it was a cost cutting measure. I've heard it's superior though as far as driving dynamics are concerned, let's hope for longevity. If you look hard enough, you'll see a few of those cost cutting measures on the 3rd gen midsizers GM is offering. There is less room for profit on these. Ford went with the 10spd and a V6 option. Toyota went with an optional hybrid that'll best GM's 2.7 in HP/TQ and surely MPG. That being said, competition is great. The Toyota fanbois should thank GM. I still think GM has a competitive pair of trucks here.
