I've used lacquer thinner to remove paint when I've screwed up. I just continually soak a rag and rub until the paint is removed. I've used it on both plastic and metal pieces without any damage to the underlying part.

Just like gasoline, lacquer thinner is highly flammable. You'll also want to get a good aerator mask and use it in a well ventilated area because the fumes are highly noxious.
