I believe that after 2016, convertibles must also pass the side impact and side pole impact tests.

That leaves fundamentally the roof strength test to pass.

T-tops are not impossible. But to simply get the structure for both roof strength as well as body stiffness for handling, you would add so much weight that you would be around 4,000 pounds again.
