I think it is totally doable you just man run into some issues as having a hard time maneuvering the sawzall to cut (depending on how big yours is) and may have a hard time taking the stock ones out. As far as welding, I had mine clamped for the first few thousand miles and they never moved I just noticed some soot forming on the midpipe from a slight leak, apparently I didn't tighten them enough. I eventually got them welded on when I went with a 2.5' midpipe.
