Why someone might want an auto over a manual is personal preference. In most cases, I absolutely prefer the manual - to each their own.
But Chevy is quite smart to give potential buyers the option. Why? They will sell more of them, which is what they are in the business of doing. Ford would probably sell more GT500s if they offered an automatic too (especially to drag racers).
