That is the main trick.
Once you start the belt on the crank pulley use one hand to hold the belt into the grooves while rotating the engine over to walk the belt on.
Sorry for the crudeness of the video. Was no practice run and I've never put a stretch belt onto a stock pulley. I've always had an UDP which is a touch easier and I've never had a belt not stay in place while walking it onto the crank pulley which I blame the stock pulley size for that.
Anyway this is how I've always done it without zipties.
