Calling a Convertible a ‘Vert’

Some forum members here refer to their Convertible as a ‘Vert’. It just seems so, I don’t know… weird, or lazy, or “I’m hip”… I guess the microseconds saved by saying or typing ‘Vert’ is at the root? It sure can’t be because it ‘sounds cool’, because it doesn’t.

I’m not looking for a fight nor am I trying to stir up a controversy. Just a pet peeve venting, I guess.

To me, it’s kind of like referring to San Francisco as 'Frisco'. I grew up in the East bay, which was close enough to The City that there was an unwritten rule that you just don’t do that. You knew a person was an out of towner if they said Frisco.

I once owned and restored a ’69 Olds 442, 4 speed convertible, so I know how to appreciate a convertible. Very nice.

Btw, the 3 times I used the word in this posting are my first and last.

Anyone with me, such problems, eh?
