The front suspension on your Camaro is also a MacPherson strut, and with the very similar approach to the lower control arm as in the current Mustang in that it's now two separate links. The front suspension on your Camaro has more in common with the S550's front suspension than differences (other than calibration details).

The S197's L-shaped lower front arm has a lot more in common with the front lower arm of certain BMWs of the same era (mid-2000s). It's not the disaster you seem to think it is.
