Any MA resident ever had unclaimed property?

I went to the Mass.gov website, and apparently I have funds owed to me that are unclaimed. All the info I can get before I initiate a claim is '100 dollars+'. I can think of three things it could be.

Being the online age, they want my social, etc. Also being the online age (and having been part of the .Gov's data breach) I want to give the least info possible.

Anybody from MA ever claim property from the state?

I don't know about Mass but in NC they have a number you can call and you can choose to check over the phone and if you do have anything, you can print the forms out and mail them in instead of making a claim online.

Ohio is pretty much the same except it has to be done via snail mail. . There's certain information you have to provide like copies of picture ID and proof of address.

I've done it once, forgot about a bank account I had years ago. Had a couple hundred bucks in it. I called the number, they sent me some papers, I filled them out and sent them back. Eventually I got a check in the mail. They didn't want any more info than what I already give them every year when I file taxes.

It's ligit. By law if a company owes you money and for whatever reason can not locate/contact you they have to give the money to the state.

It's called escheated funds.

I use to collect 1,000's of dollars a year for an office I use to work for.

About 5 years ago we found out our parents had $22k in a stock account that was about to get turned over to the state of WV in the next 30 days. My brother in GA handled it through a WV gov office but I remember it was a drawn out process. There are 4 of us siblings in four states he had to deal with the paperwork for. I think all I had to do was provide a W-9. His accountant proved the stock was worth less than the purchase price so we didn't have to pay any taxes. Took about 6 months but we each got a check for $5200 after fees and accountant. Sorry, but beyond that, I got nothing for you. I did spend most of it my SS, lol.
