I've coated the flat black stripes on my daughter's a few times now. I've used Adam's products with good luck.
Quick Sealant H2O Guard & Gloss Super Vinyl Rubber and Trim Dressing (SVRT) |
If by coat you mean wax, yes you can. I've only used
Meguire's Cleaner/Wax on my Inferno orange factory stripes. They still look like new after 6+ years. The product goes on easy and wipes off without leaving a film. Inexpensive and sold at WalMart. |
Since you have gloss stripes, your fine. Wouldn't want to use on matte finish though.
Here's a good application video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g_rO5T9l7E Also a detailed write up on application with pics. http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-P...um-gloss-coat/ |

He didn't ask about Megs Cleaner Wax.....maybe you should post on the Wal-Mart website.:bonk: |
thanks Joe, both were very helpful I need to get some of those suede cloths off Rag Co to help applying, really looking forward to the application come spring. figure I do correction in the spring already and I have never been overly pleased with the sealants I have used in the past so I think a coating might be exactly what I need!

Yes you can coat the vinyl stripes. What I do is either use Adams detail spray when I am in a hurry or the buttery wax or the super vrt depending on my mood. Just apply gently and it will leave a nice shine.

The most important thing is the prep before application, you don't want any residual polishes or oils from your hands on the paint. You can use IPA 10-15% or Carpro Eraser to get the paint 100% clean before application. I prefer Eraser, because instead of dissolving oils like IPA does, it actually lifts them off the surface so they can be easily removed. IPA flashes pretty quick, and leaves a chance that some could be left behind. This looks like an easy coating to apply, I like the self-leveling effect as well. They also state that it's less prone to water spotting, like some of the older coatings were. |
the plan is to take it to my sisters house where they have a two story garage, that is huge and heated. will do all the polishing, correcting, all the prep and then apply the Gloss Coat and let it set overnight with the heat turned up to help speed up curing. then will probably wait a couple weeks before topping it. have some collinite 915 waiting when the time comes. plan on taking my time and polishing the paint out, jeweling then whipping down with IPA.

could coat his vinyl stripes. Just because Wall Mart sells a product doesn't mean it's not a good product. You replied like a genuine product pusher jerk here on camaro5. I was just trying to be helpful...:noidea: |

I liked megs cleaner wax back in 1980....this is 2016.. technology has evolved...coatings of today provide protection that make common sealants and waxes obsolete for the purpose of protection. Megs cleaner wax must be reapplied every 2 months...a coating like OGC lasts 2 years. If you still desire to use Meg's, that is your choice. But you were the one "pushing" a product that you like... I simply replied to Shaf's question. Please release the Megs Cleaner Wax and place it on the table...now step away slowly.....take a deep breath and open your mind to the possibility that technology has evolved since 1980.:faint: |
