Poor Design or my fault?

Hey guys,

It's been rainy and windy for the past 3 weeks, yes I haven't cleaned my baby-maro in 3 weeks and its caked with dust/dirt.

However, I opened up my trunk today and look what I found...

Lots of soot/dirt in these crevices (both sides); looks like the wind deposited all this dust and leaves in it (I park the girl outside :frown:)

Now I'm not sure how to clean it out, I can't just run a hose on it, the opening leads to the taillights. Again, does water go through there seeing that so much dirt can get in, I'm sure water does too.

Any ideas? I don't want to damage anything.

I would get a vacuum and sucked all the loose stuff out and then soak it with waterless wash and wipe clean.

Can you run a small shop vac in there?

I am guessing you don't keep your car in a garage. You might want to use a cover to keep out the dust. But I agree with you, bad design to allow all that dirt to get in places like that.

Might be real tight fight, if I can find the long skinny attachment, I'm sure it will work.

I guess the trunk lid itself doesn't have a seal for these areas, which is unfortunate as it runs to the taillights and exposes the mechanical parts for the trunk as well.

Thank you for the advice.

You can buy small detailing vacuum attachments, go to Lowe's or Home Depot.

I don't think it is Poor Design, I think it is Karma for calling your Camaro a baby-maro!

Another poor design of the trunk is the water collection on top - the way it pools on each side of the spoiler, then dries leaving oval rings with any dirt that was on the car.

That is not a poor design...it's actually MEANT to do that (not gather, but direct "stuff" away)...while that is a lot of dirt and grime...those channels are designed to allow all of it to wash behind the rear fascia through that opening near the piston mount.

You could vacuum out the big stuff, and piled up dust...then just wash the rest away.
