Interesting update!

wholey crap! no v6?! A turbo 4banger!?

FenwickHockey65 01-18-2011 03:34 PM

We didn't say there wouldn't be a V6, we just said we haven't received confirmation of one yet.

Glad I bought my 5th gen because I doubt that I'll be buying a 6th gen after reading that. CAFE sucks!

A smaller camaro?...no thanks!:yikes:

so there might be 3 different engines to choose from? doesn't sound like a very cost effective thing to do. but what do i know.:iono:

I dunno...they did an OUTSTANDING job on the 5th gens, I doubt they'll let us down....

PoorMansCamaro 01-18-2011 03:42 PM

i mean, what model will the 4banger go into, and what model will the v6 go into? and if the 4banger is turbo'd, what's the hp output on it compared to the 6? i would assume they would be very similar...

my head hurts...lol

It's possible. GM's 2.0L Turbocharged LNF I-4 is a very powerful engine. Ask Number 3 about his Sky Redline. Then there may be a 3.0L Twin-Turbocharged V6 in development that reportedly may be hitting close to 400 HP.

At first it sounds odd...but then when you consider that GM can milk 290 HP/340 lb ft of torque out of the LNF, then install that engine in a smaller, lighter Camaro, it starts making some sense.

It sounds like the V8 is not going away.

Smaller and lighter would be an improvement. I love my 2010, but it's pretty big for a pony car. That was really, really obvious when I parked next to a 1970 at a cruise night!

I don't know why, but i can't see GM releasing a FI 4 and 6 cylinder camaro.

Although they mention a 6.2 in the article, I would assume with DI and other improvements the next-gen LS will embody would allow a smaller displacement with equal/greater output and equivalent better mpg...BOTH good news! With the Corvette Team racing their 5.5L, think about something between 5.0 and 5.5...with at least 400 hp...in a car with about 400 lbs. less lard.

If I recall correctly, a 5.3L displacement of the Gen V V8 will be produced as well.

If it's significantly smaller and has a 7 speed manual then I'm out. When will they quit adding gears to cars? Next will be an 18 speed Allison in the vette.
