Camaro to go on CTS Alpha

as opposed to ATS - Not sure if this is already known around here - obviously the Alpha platform move has been known, but came acrossed this article stating it will go on the "long wheel base" version of the alpha.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...r-power-report

mentions the 4 banger option too.

Basically every other report says Alpha SWB.

ChefBorOzzy 06-27-2014 04:54 PM

I don't buy it.

ssrs2lt 06-27-2014 04:56 PM

wow bigger? doesn't match other reports

Their source is the same Automobile Magazine piece that is the subject of a couple other threads... and appears to be pure speculation.

Well, I wouldn't use the term 'speculation'...but it's pure something all right.

The Camaro has been confirmed to be on Alpha for some time. It is expected to be significantly lighter and smaller, although the intention is to make the Camaro still a Camaro. That includes a fun, performance-driven vehicle with aggressive styling. All of this can be accomplished with the variety of powerplants featured in the Cadillac and Corvette lineups.

if it comes out on the big wheel base I wont be buying one.

Everybody rags on Camaros for having tiny rear seats. Not anymore!

Why?

Longer wheelbase doesn't mean longer body...or does it?

Not necessarily, no. Compare the 4th gen to the 5th gen...the wheelbase grew by 11.2 inches, but the 5th gen is actually about three inches shorter in total. Then again, the overhangs on the 4th gen Camaros were freakin' huge.

mr02Z/28 06-27-2014 11:40 PM

none the less, my 2002 4th Gen Z only weighs 3,380lbs with a half tank of gas ........

This is a question I've posed a couple times, as to which version of Alpha, Camaro would end up on. But even if it does end up on CTS's that's no reason not to buy one. Even if they were identical weights, they won't be, the Alpha car would/will run circles around the old Zeta-II car.

the first fail in that article is that they labeled the picture of the 2014 SS a ZL1...that being noted i did see this pic the other day which if it were a Camaro prototype would certainly be on a long wheel base.
