Insider information on 6th Gen Camaro?

This is all only possible but still very interesting. Chevrolet is purportedly going to introduce two new Camaro models for the next gen Camaro in 2016 the Camaro Z-SPEC & Z/28 models. The Z/28 will be the second most powerful Camaro right under the ZL1 of course. The Z-SPEC will be one step above the base Camaro model. Heres the bad news though the base coupes will no longer have a V8 or V6 engine BUT a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder making between 260-325 horsepower but will get 34MPG in the city & 47MPG on the highway. This could be devastating news for muscle car fans now. And it goes on to say the SS & Z/28 will be powered by the new Gen 5 V8 which is estimated to produce between 440-490hp and of course the ZL1 will be the top dog still with extreme horsepower numbers. Its going to be hard to get people into a base 4-cylinder Camaro.

If the V8 models are still available I'm not really sure what the big deal is with a 4-cylinder turbo model. Just buy the bigger engine.

it won't be hard to get people into a 4-cyl camaro.... they're called 20-somethings... they want something that looks fast but also doesn't break the bank... There are a ton of sub 200HP coupes out there that young people buy for that exact reason. I personally wouldn't buy a 4cyl Camaro, but I can afford the gas.

You're right - all that's gonna happen -- just as soon as John, Cheryl, Al and I do a break-dance on Jefferson Avenue in front of the RenCen.......

Believe nothing that you read in the media about any next-gen Camaro......

(.......Hmmmmm......I think I've said THAT at least 17,000,232 times in the past.....---and I was right 17,000,231 times....)

Thanks Scott for clearing that up.

Hmmmm...........no 5th gen. Z/28....

haha shot down

If any of these claims are true for the 6th Gen Camaro, as long as Chevy cuts out some weight I don't see anything wrong with having a turbocharged 4-cyl that puts out between 260-325 hp.

However, I will be shooting for the 6th Gen SS or Z28. :D

Well I was close, I did question whether the V8 would still be used. Im willing to bet the 7th gen would be a model that goes totally away from the v8 all together? Im curious about this 6th gen Z-28 though in style and looks. 440-490 HP sounds great

NASCAR just got fuel injection......which has only been around for, oh, 20+ years. The V8 (regardless of generation) will not be going anywhere.

I have to admit - that'd be highly amusing to see. I'd buy tickets to see that.

I say take this with a grain of salt.

But I will say that I hope GM doesn't lose the V6 in the Camaro. Why not develop it just like the ATS which should be the same platform the next Camaro rides on. It already has a Turbo 4 and a V6, so why not offer that in the Camaro? V6 riding on that lighter platform with a modern transmission should easily be capable of low to mid 30s mpg on the highway. Not to mention also capable of mid to low 5 second 0 - 60 and mid to high 13s out of the box. Throw some simple bolt ons on there and you have a V6 that is nearing the capability of a modern SS L99

That leads me to my 2nd thought. 35mpg city and 45 highway on a turbo 4?????? No way will I believe it until I see it. There is no such thing as a turbo 4 with 300+ HP that can get close 40 combined mpg. If GM really can pull this off (and I don't think anyone can pull it off right now) well then props to them and I see why they'd offer a turbo 4 with those kinds of numbers. Holy geez...

...anyways GM if you are listening. Give us options. Let us pick a strung out 4, a strong 6, or the new 5.x liter DI V8.
