I have to pay for Android Auto upgrade

1 Attachment(s)
I purchased my Camaro back in March of 2016 through Becky from Rodgers Chevrolet up in Detroit. It didn't have Android Auto installed. Today I went to my local Chevy dealership. They stated that I had to pay for the upgrade to the MyLink software. I've attached the info they gave me. Primarily because it was built before April 4th. I was extremely surprised since I clearly remember before purchasing the Camaro GM was advertising Android Auto.

Has anybody ran into this issue.

There's multi pages. The listing is at the top line and then if you look through the paper, you can see the continuing grid on the next page.

I suppose if you can find proof that it came with the feature, that would help the case. Seems very odd.

It was supposed to. I have a 2016 as well that was early, before AA was released.

What it's saying is, if you didn't have the feature upgraded and flashed to your car during the time period listing (when presumably they were good willing it) then you're now on the hook for it.

not that I agree with it.

Try a different dealership I guess? Or, when the car is in for a service, ask them to flash the upgrade on for free as a gesture of good will.

My dealership installed it no issues at all, but that was right after I'd bought the car around August 2016. My dealership has always been pretty great to me, mind.

Out of interest, how much are they asking you to pay?

They said he would charge me one hour of labor ($110) even though it takes 2 to 3 hours allegedly.

Yeah I got charged $45 for them to do mine a few months ago. Wasn't happy about it but they gave me the same paper. The first owner I guess didn't get it done within the time period listed so I had to pay. Sucks.

i007spectre 11-18-2017 12:04 PM

Yeah it was only a free upgrade for a limited time. Now you have to pay to get it done.

suzook 11-19-2017 07:28 AM

Sorry, but this is some BS from GM! The car WAS advertised as having it, and vehicles that don't would be upgraded. Now they want to charge for vehicles that didn't upgrade??? What a lowlife POS move. Way to go GM!!! Looks like GM wants to go bankrupt again. With all the QC issues going on, and these slimy tactics, I am done. GM will never get a cent from me.

There are known bug fixes in the updated releases which contain Android Auto -- therefore software upgrades to the I05/I06 radios should be included under warranty. WTF is GM smoking?

Just go to a different dealer and tell them your Pandora app freaks out and you have an issue with the video not switching to backup camera sometime. They will prescribe a radio reflash, which should always be done with the latest firmware version. That will include the Projection app updates.

I'd try taking it into another dealership and tell them that you are having problems with your infotainment system it keeps intermittently blanking out. They will load you up with the latest software for free if you are under 36K miles as a warranty claim.
