Wimpy exhaust on 2014 ss lol

So what is with these wimpy stock exhaust ? I got the v8 mainly for the sound mad I can barely hear the v8 unless I floor it when starting or at idle . So what gives ?

CamaroBody 07-14-2014 04:58 AM

fuel consumption and npp is not available for automatics

jcsuddre 07-14-2014 05:02 AM

Yes but even so I swear when I'm using the shifters to downshift at lights I sounds like v6 at times the exhaust is so weak

CamaroBody 07-14-2014 05:05 AM

a custom exhaust is required and worth the investment

Stainless Works Retro or Borla Atak IMHO
It WILL wake it up

Cat back Borla Atak was my first mod after buying my car. Couldn't imagine it with stock exhaust now.

Have the big center muffler removed - it's cheap and sounds a lot better :)

At least until you go with cat back or headers.

He's talking about the resonator in the center of the exhaust system...

Attachment 645832

It can be eliminated and replaced with an "X-Pipe" (below), "H-pipe", or just straight pipes that allow for better flow and more sound. X-Pipe Kits available for around $150. Just google it.

Pretty easy mod, but there are a lot of great sounding aftermarket axel-back mufflers out there too. I chose Solo w/ J-Pipes and love 'em. Just the sound I was looking for and no drone at all.

I don't have any photos but you cant miss it - it is about 2 1/2' to 3' long in the center of the car. Looks like a long skinny muffler. Had mine replaced with just straight pipe.

personally i love my SLP Loudmouth 1, a little bit of drone in cabin at acceleration with windows up but i like it :)

Here's a video of the Solos. This is just moderate acceleration. The more you stomp, the harder they romp.
:)

Yeah DM, some people like a little drone and (I suppose) some like a lot. The Solo J-Pipes are adjustable. They come from Solo adjusted for no drone, but you can loosen the clamps on the J-Pipes and move them around to get the exact amount of drone you want. I wanted none - and there is none.
