Rumor: 6th Gen Camaro Coming in 2016

From GMI comes this enticing tidbit...

Quote:

Our GMI sources have confirmed to us, that the 6th gen Camaro has already shown up within the GM product system as a 2016 MY. That means, it could get here as early as 36 months from now. The availability of Gen V 6.2L V8 is also confirmed.

Next-Gen 6.2L availability?!

Apparently...

Stay Tuned...

TJ91 12-21-2011 01:27 PM

Wow only 3 more years of having a badass 5th gen wonder what the new design will look like

v6needluv2 12-21-2011 01:30 PM

Hopefully by then I can afford to upgrade to an SS

toesuf94 12-21-2011 01:36 PM

Perfect...mine will be paid off by then... I wonder if it will be evolutionary or REVOLUTIONARY in design.

Black5thgen 12-21-2011 01:38 PM

Hopefully GM gives us a car both for the masses and the enthusiasts. We'll see.

Dznts 12-21-2011 01:43 PM

CamaroSkooter 12-21-2011 02:09 PM

Will Tran change the website to Camaro6.com?! Will I have to upgrade my hoodie?! :D

ffrcobra_65 12-21-2011 02:51 PM

I hear the 7th Gen will be released in 2022. Followed by the 8th Gen all electric Camaro in 2027. Then the 9th Gen Camaro the size of a Fiat 500 in 2032. Let's start the panic now!!!!!

jbob1981 12-21-2011 03:04 PM

I'm first on my dealers waiting list. I'm locked in at MSRP!!! :)

oldfriend 12-21-2011 09:16 PM

Will GM make a G6 ZL1 if so then i am waiting for that one .

coolman 12-21-2011 09:20 PM

Oh no! So now we're going to speculate for three years on the 6th gen in a 5th gen forum. I don't know if I can take that. It's bad enough with all this back and fourth bench racing of two cars that aren't even here yet. I'll come back in three years to see what's up with the 6th gen if I'm still alive.:bonk:

Zabo 12-21-2011 09:40 PM

Hooo dayum, perfect timing. By then I'll actually have to decide between my 33rd (Cars 2-32 having been destroyed in idiot racing accidents) Fbody or an Alpha Camaro. :sm0:

v8 12-21-2011 09:46 PM

I'm very curious to see how they retain/change the styling

This website was founded on hope and speculation though. Remember, it went online about 3 years before the Camaro went into production

Ice Demon 12-21-2011 11:25 PM

I know the the 6th gen will be a good looking car but I just don't think it will look better the 5th gen. We will have to wait and see but I hope gm can prove me wrong.

TJ91 12-21-2011 11:28 PM

I could never give up my gen5. Love her way too much. If a gen 6 comes, ill either buy that or get a vette by then!

Rallysport 12-22-2011 12:06 AM

Woohoo! The 6th Gen is coming! Let me make this educated guess: It will not be offered in any shade of BLUE. Period!

G10 12-22-2011 01:15 AM

Just hope it doesn't look like the butt ugly 90's Camaro. Huuuuula

Vengeance Graphix 12-22-2011 01:20 AM

this is exciting!, cant wait to see some sketches. By then i should be able to get me a V8

Could be worse. It could look like that butt ugly '69 Camaro you see people swooning over. Old inefficent POS cars belong in the smelter. If you think I'm being serious, get the stick out of your ass. M'kay?

Details??!!

I've heard whispers that it may revolve around the look of gen 4?......

I onno I highly doubt that
I think they're going to do what ford did and try to evolve the current design.
But then again, seeing what they want to do with the vette, they might just go revolutionary again
Damn I just contradicted myself lol

Still gonna go with what I first said. Evolving the current design while being smaller, lighter and more efficient in power and fuel economy
And I'm sure the SS will be a v8

Kahdir 12-22-2011 04:58 AM

Unless the base V8 is pushing 475hp and under $40k MSRP I'll likely skip the next gen. and pick up a 2015 special edition :emoticon2:

Rogan 12-22-2011 07:01 AM

So I have 3 more years to beat on my SS. Cool.

007s 'Vert 12-22-2011 07:04 AM

Who cares what it is going to look like? I think they perfected it's look in this generation, I really don't want them to change it.

Cam#7 12-22-2011 08:17 AM

I have a lot of faith in GM and anticipate a repeat of the Gen1/Gen2 transition. Two great models that were totally different. The cool thing is the Gen5 as already without a doubt but it's mark in car styling history. We're driving living legends !!!!!

PieNsky 12-22-2011 09:10 AM

I can not believe this isn't on the home page. Spy shot at a show of the next Camaro. Now this is just a mock up but you can see the lines. http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl...:0&tx=76&ty=72

1o.f00t.570rk 12-22-2011 09:17 AM

In reading one of the Camaro books, which details the Gen 1-4 pretty well and has a lot of nice photos, there are elements from all previous generations in the current one.

I'd like to see the next one take more cues from the 70-73 body style, at least with the front end that I really like more than the 1st gen's.

http://www.che265.com/images/camaro2nd-1.jpg

Translate some of these curves into some nice hard body lines to reflect or to improve upon the new Corvette design, and you would still have the 5th gen looking awesome, but the 6th gen also looking awesome as well.

PYROLYSIS 12-22-2011 09:38 AM

2016 would be fine with me. I just hope that leaves enough time for a fifth gen Z28, and enough time for me to get one, a blue one. :)

It won't be a 4th gen rehash...not like how the 5th gen is based off the '69 Camaro. The rumors are that it will return to a sleeker design set forth by the 3rd/4th gens rather than an evolution of the 5th gen.

I wholeheartedly concur. I LOVE the styling of my 5th Gen. 'VERT. The 5th Gen. is aesthetically absolutely incredible. The 'VERT just does it for me.

I hope the 6th gen. won't deviate too much in design, if at all, from the 5th gen. Smaller and lighter with an engine upgrade and I'm in like Flint!
