Alpha Chassis Undercarriage Preview of C6 Camaro...
2 Attachment(s)
Found this video of the CTS V Sport and took a special look at the exhaust setup which gives us an idea of what type of axle back muffler arraignment we may see on the C6 Camaro. We have seen through spy photos already a peak at what appears to be the same setup on the hand built prototypes that have been seen so far in public.
Go to 6:02 of the video for a clearer view. https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...DIceKecw#t=325 This a view of a 4 cylinder ATS chassis and also a rear view of one the 6 gen Camaro prototypes. |
Wow, that's a massive muffler.

This setup seems to be for a more aerodynamic reason as it relates to under body air flow management than it is on the current generation car. This may or may not make the grade for the production Camaro and just may be a place keeper from the alpha parts bin for the actual production piece.

Makes you wonder since that muffler made production for the ATS. Must be worth the weight to design it that way. Good find.

Here is a larger shot.
I think based on this, we just found out a good way to pull 30 - 40 pounds (or more?) out of this car lol. Whats strange to me, is the resonator 3/4 of the way to the back looks like it can accomidate dual pipes, but in this case is only recieving one? (yes I know in this case its likely b/c its a turbo 4, but I just thought the resonator looks llike an "H" pipe setup) I wonder if this same setup from the resonators back to the tips can accomidate the V6 version as well? http://www.extremetech.com/wp-conten...-ATS-03542.jpg |
Why is there only one side exhaust hooked up?

Look how big the exhaust is up until what looks like a cat in the middle of the car, and then really necks down out the back of the cat... Maybe free up some HP if you went with bigger exh from there back? Especially on a worked over high boost engine.

wow, that muffler is impressive.. Great catch OP!
|
I can imagine how awesome the lt1 will sound with a fat exhaust all the way up from the collectors, cats gone, resonator gone, ridiculously big muffler gone!

What you have found in the underside of the ATS is really the visible proof of the adaptability of the Alpha platform. Case in point if it looks like the rear of the exhaust is set for a true dual exhaust and the front isn't it's because that model has a 4cyl. But the platform is ready to accept a full suite of engines up to V8 and in different layouts from CTS to Camaro. Look at the amount of space available around the transmission for dual exhaust and even a longer transmission.
While the Camaro prototypes likely have added cladding and other tricks done to distort their production bodies when it comes to visible hardware like the brakes, exhaust and muffler that's almost certainly production ready. |
that rear trailing arm on the bottom rear looks different than the stock stamped ones we have on current models. (I replaced mine due to wheel hop)
