6th gen Camaro when?

Okay so this is a long time from now, but I will be getting an SS camaro sep 2013...I was wondering if there are any rumors on the sixth gen because I don't want to get it and a year later the sixth gen comes out. The Camaro will be my first car, I am trying to get into Johns Hopkins University and I live in SoCal currently, I plan on driving from Maryland to California once every 2-3 months so I need a safe car, that's why I'm going down the Camaro route, but if the sixth gen is scheduled for 2014 I can most def. drive my dads company truck for a little while. Thanks in advance. :)

Really, It wouldn't make sense if they do because camaro sales are doing really well.

MikeSVX 07-31-2012 11:10 AM

Thats a long ride. You would most likely save money by flying if it's just you. Your talking around 2800 miles. I've driven it a few times. The only time it was ever cheaper then flying was on my motorcycle, and it was only about $50 cheaper. I drove to see the country though. It takes 3 days to make the drive, each way and thats pushing it. If you really plan on driving that much I would recommend getting either a Sonic, or Cruz ECO with the 1.4L turbo engine. they are decent cars and the sonic runs about $18K new and you can get close to 40mpg running on the highway. The long of a trip will kill you in gas even in the V6 Camaro. Especially on a college budget.

SnowVert 07-31-2012 11:49 AM

I would be surprised to see the 6th gen by 2015 even. I agree with the other replies as well. A road trip of that length can be fun. Driving it every 2-3 months will drive you crazy and it will be much more expensive than a flight.

DRKS1D3 07-31-2012 11:53 AM

Buy a plane ticket--a lot cheaper and a lot less time traveling

woodside783 07-31-2012 12:26 PM

on a few other post that it will be 2016 or summer 2015.but it will be on the new alpha platform.

mcbeth15 07-31-2012 03:04 PM

Take the plane. After a few months @ JH you'll want the extra down time.

Your profile says you currently drive a Mercedes GL450. Um....I'd keep that :)

Regarding the Camaro...if you like the current generation, buy one. There's no promise of a 6th generation or what it will look like. And it's okay to own a car that's not in its current generation :)

Any particular reason you want to go to Johns Hopkins?

Dude, I would LOVE to HAVE to drive that far in my Camaro that often. :)

Cpanthers85 07-31-2012 04:13 PM

Just my $.02... but why would you buy a brand new car to start taking it cross country every couple months... back and forth. Think about the depreciation value. Think about the gas money you are going to spend. The V6 still only gets 25-30mpg and you mentioned getting the SS, which maybe gets 24..advertised. Realisitically, if you can keep your foot our of it..20. You can get a used Cruise or a Sonic...that will get great gas mileage and wont depreciate as fast. Not trying to be a buzz kill..but its just not practical.

daveagogo1 07-31-2012 04:22 PM

You plan to drive that every couple of months. Then after 1 trip you will be flying as it will probably cost less and be a lot quicker.

Your safe. 6th gen is not coming next year. Closest i see a 6th gen is 2015 model year considering we have not even seen one single sketch of it yet.

Man you're so dumb. What they're ACTUALLY doing is putting a 2.0 L turbo in it and making it front wheel drive. People these days...

I was told its going to be a 2.0L 4 banger front wheel for the LS models,
2.0L turbo AWD for the LT. And a 3.5L v6 supercharged AWD for the SS.

FenwickHockey65 07-31-2012 05:12 PM

Mid decade.

As for the people joking about the 2.0T...

Heh.

Obzen 07-31-2012 05:15 PM

My money is on 2016 model year meaning it'll be out late 2015. The typical lifespan these days seems to be 5 years before either a new gen or refresh.

DefianceDan 07-31-2012 06:57 PM

I'm hoping for 2015 or 16. That way they'll have a year or two to work out the kinks before a 50th anniversary edition.

samikep 07-31-2012 07:51 PM

I've read a number of places that they are expecting a release in the fall of 2015, so I would assume it would be the 2016 model.

MistyBlu10 07-31-2012 07:54 PM

DrinkerOU 07-31-2012 10:37 PM

I just order a 2013, and I looked into it. It looked to me like it could be a MY 2015 at the earliest.

Doing premed at Hopkins won't give you a better chance to get into their med school.

Have you visited the school? Definitely don't want to park your Camaro on the streets...

I wouldn't park my car on the streets there.

Fact is Mustang will be announcing the 50th anniversary model on April 17, 2014 as a 2015 model.
Speculation is the Gen6 would come out a MY later as a 2016. Because we'll have another 2 model years. My hopes are growing that we'll see 2014 Z/28.

meissen 08-01-2012 08:31 AM

I hope they reserve the Z28 for the 6th gen, personally...

1LE and ZL1 for 5th gen. Z28 on the smaller alpha platform. See the new ATS.

Yup, I wonder how much lighter the alpha platform is? GM is saying that the ATS with the base engine should be right around 3,400 lbs. So maybe the Camaro with the V8 will drop ~200 lbs, but I don't really see it dropping more than that. I hope I'm wrong though.

Minus_Z28 08-01-2012 09:33 AM

http://media.cadillac.com/media/us/e...tml#dimensions

Base ATS: 3315 lbs
RWD ATS V6: 3461 lbs

Looking good.

Not bad, so the V6 ats is about 300lbs lighter than the V6 Camaro currently. So like I said I'm guessing the Alpha platform Camaro will ~200 lbs +/- 40 lbs lighter than the Zeta. Just a WILD guess.

meissen 08-01-2012 12:14 PM

ATS has more luxury items in it too, so I would expect the Camaro to be lighter.

I'am surprised they came out with the ZL1 instead of the Z28?
