Manual Trans have higher resell

Dealer told me new Camaros sell at higher costs when new with Auto trans, but on the used market the manuals demand more money at resell. Anyone else know that?✊😬

There are less manuals than automatics and there is a mark up on window sticker for an automatic. On the v6 manual you get the V8 limited slip also. I'm all in for manuals getting higher resale.

In enthusiast cars that seems to always be the case. New market wants autos, used market loves manuals. Look at CTS-V, Ferrari 355/360, and 911 for examples of this.

Depends on market and who is buying the vehicle. If you find the right buyer then yes. That is offset by the fact that you reach a broader pool of buyers with an automatic transmission so they are pretty much a wash around my area.

For example, my local chevy dealers will not order cars for inventory with a manual. The customer has to order one if they want one. Come to think of it, the only car left in the chevy lineup that you can order with a manual transmission is the Camaro, pretty sad.

Manuals have always had a higher resale value in performance cars. Always. This after 15 years of buying cars the mustangs etc this is always the case.

In general, manuals are much more rare and thus sought after.

in 5-10 years manuals will be worth significantly more than automatics as driving purists flock to them.

Which begs the question, why are we getting rid of the manuals?

I think as long as there is demand for them some manufacturers will keep offering them. They said the Supra would not get a manual but then Nissan said they were offering one with the new Z so now for 2023 you can get a manual in the Supra.

The new C8 desperately needs a manual. If you peruse the C8 forums you will see many owners complain the car is not that exciting to drive. It handles great, very quick, but too refined, too quiet and less visceral than previous Corvettes. A manual trans for driver engagement would help a lot. Maybe the Z06 with that flat plane crank will help...

It costs more to fix a mistake than doing it right the first time. Hopefully this is an indication to manufacturers that people actually do want manual transmissions. However if the increased transaction price only exists in resale then I don't see the incentive for the manufacturer to keep them around.
Buy more manuals folks.

I love the thought but it's too late for that now. We are beyond saving manual transmissions in consumer cars. :sad0147:

Will GM/Chevy have one once the Camaro is gone and the Cadillac Blackwing has run out around the same time?

Money, it costs tons of money to develop a new manual transmission and if the take rate isn't high enough, it isn't financially viable. While we are all automotive enthusiasts, most people simply don't care, and car companies are a business, and the business is making money. The new Z has a manual transmission (and chassis) that is largely from the last generation just tweaked. The Supra's new manual is straight from an existing BMW, so little R&D cost. I'd be surprised if any major automotive manufacturer (aside from maybe Porsche) ever develops a new manual gearbox.

My original call was to order a stick. The dealer said I'll order it, but it will be much harder to find a buyer when you sell it.

This is pretty accurate in my area. Don't get me wrong, it will sell but it may take a little longer since you are limiting buying pool quite a bit.

Agreed. I was surprised when Mazda released the new ND version in 2016 that the manual trans was built-in house vs. sourcing one from Aisan like they do with the GR86. I know they have some interesting gearing, for example 6th gear is 1:1. They were also after serious weight savings so both may have played a role in the decision.

Now, they have been through like 6 revisions since its release due to failures but at least they built one.
