How long till the performance varient shows up?

Im anxiously awaiting the 6th gen like everyone else, but im not in the market for an SS or whatever there going to call it. Im cross-shopping the Z06 for my next purchase but the lack of back seats has me on the fence. When do you guys anticipate the "big dog" showing up? looking for an LT4 with Carbon Brakes, racing seats, ect..

i doubt it'll show up during the first year. maybe late 2016 as a '17?

the ZL1 dropped in 2012, so id go with about the same time frame.

Can't we just see the car first? LOL

Likely, based on history and recent C7, coupe, then convertible , then first performance version.

Very hard to launch that much complexity all at once. So not impossible, but not likely to be under a year.

However, if we get a 200 pound lighter car with the LT1, maybe no one will care as much.

That's what I'm thinking. If the car can drop weight and add the LT1, you're looking at a serious improvement over the current SS.

I look at how the C7 performance jumped for each version over the previous ones. The standard Stingray performs like the old Z06, and the new C7 Z06 performs like the old ZR1.
I am imagining that the new SS will perform close to what the ZL1 does today, and when the ZL1 hits it should perform like today's Z/28....if and when there is another Z/28, I think it will elevate the performance to a new level for Camaros.

That will make the gen6 SS a seriously fun daily driver with a much improved interior. Can't wait!

the new SS will improve allot. But not ZL1 performance out the box. I think lighter a bit more power maybe 450hp bring the 0-60 to 4.3 - 4.4. I don't see the standered SS knocking on the ZL1/stingray's door so soon.

The power in the current SS is not bad still. That was never the issue with the 5th gen. Its the weight and handling of the standers SS. You improve that and I don't think people would mind 0-60 and 1/4 time at or around the same as the current SS with 1LE pushing the envolpe closer to the current ZL1 as far as 0-60.

The new SS will feel ten times better around the track. Track times are what's important now. Chevy showed that with the development of the 1LE, ZL1, and Z28. Overall power is not there main concern.

Well I was talking handling more than horsepower.... What it will do around the ring and such...

Seeing this makes me feel good about Camaro's future at GM...

BigBlock427 03-15-2015 12:31 PM

Ohh yes I agree. I think the new SS will be faster then the current 1LE and behind the ZL1by a tad. I want to see what the new SS 1LE will be like!!.

I think it will go like this as far as releases.

SS 2016
1LE/Convertible 2017
2018 ZL1/copo (if they do another)
2019 Z28...
2021 7th gen twin turbo 6 with an electric motor assist.

Curious if they will keep the zl1/z28 theme going. I will buy whatever one comes with the lt4. Hopefully it has optional carbon brakes. And the Z28 rims. Lol.
