Top Speed for 500RWHP

Just curious what the top speed for our car would be if it was making that much HP to the wheel. I could of sworn I saw a post a while backing saying how much HP was needed to achieve certain speeds, can't seem to find it now though

I'm curious, too.

If aero stability holds , you would probably see 200mph is my guess.

I've not seen the post you're referring to but I would think top speed would vary depending on local weather conditions, if it's hot and humid you will lose some of that power. Also, if you have changed your rear gear ratio your overall top speed can be different from stock. Best way to find your top speed would be to get onto a private strip and go for it

I can get pretty close if I have HP, rpm for HP, torque, rpm for torque, axle gearing, and transmission. It doesn't even take very long.

hmmm...well if the climate was perfect and you had a lower gear ratio than the 3.45...you think 200mph would be possible in a camaro SS with 500 to the wheel?

If it's drag limited, I have read the CoD is .35 for a coupe. We'd need to know the frontal area of the car. This thread discusses it:

If it's gear limited, well, I did a chart on that but only to 150mph:

But that could be extrapolated out. The gear ratios are listed on my chart

I think if you took a stock SS and (somehow) made it pull 500 RWHP, top speed would be the same. The speed limitation would still be, what, 155? Not trying to be a smart ass, but it would take more than just 500 rwhp to increase the top speed. Now, you'd get to that speed sooner, but still... It would depend on the tune, the rear end gearing, etc.

I know some magazine tuned a stock ls3 or l99, can't remember, and ran up to 173-174, everything else being stock. so I would think putting 500hp to the wheels would get you to 200 pretty easily.

My apologies, I should have stated without the speed limiter in place

although, I remember reading somewhere that the zl1 top speed was 184. not sure if it was because of a limiter, or just the top speed.

I remember hearing that too, I also dont think that it HAS a speed limiter. Should also realize that it is what...300lbs heavier. Although I dont know if that even matters at those speeds

found the article:

it was an ls3.
