RICHLAND COUNTY, SC

Twenty years ago, the Richland County Sheriff's department developed the Community Action Team, otherwise known as CAT.

Well before social media and Live PD, the department wanted to build strong relationships with people in the community.

To mark the milestone, the department showed off 17 brand new, high-powered, high-tech Chevy Camaros aimed at helping the CAT team continue to build that bond.

The new Camaros are fully equipped with 455 horsepower engines and the latest electronics.

"You can't do your job without good equipment," said Deputy Garo Brown, who is a six year veteran of the CAT team.. "As far as these cars are concerned, law enforcement is evolving just like crime is evolving so you've got to upgrade sometime."

The new cruisers include several of the latest features in technology, including rear-view cameras. Deputies can also perform background checks on individuals through a mobile data terminal using high-speed internet.

"It's just a better car all around"

Awesome!! Thanks for the heads-up. My favorite show and now will be even more excited for this Friday's episode with live action from Richland county, SC to see the new SS patrol vehicles. They currently have a bunch of Challenger patrol vehicles. They are used county wide for general patrol not just pursuits. I can't wait to see Deputies Mastrianni, Lawrence, Lt. Brown enjoying their new Camaros.

Where do they put people that they arrest? That backseat is a form of inhumane torture.

Funny & true, but these are interceptors, let the paddy wagon come along later to haul away the trash. I can see why these Officers are smiling, love that torque!

They radio another non-Camaro patrol vehicle to pick them up probably.

I love Live PD! It takes Cops, which I've always liked, and turns it up a few notches. Live and unedited! Can't beat that!

This is awesome news! New cruising buddies! I'm a little surprised the light-bar is on the top, but I guess they want to maintain a more obvious presence. Now I get to combine my Camaro wave with my cop wave for a special hybrid Camaro-cop wave!

Now THIS just makes my day!!!! AWESOME!! Looks like Lieutenant Danny Brown in the first pic.........

Now they just need to add the push bumpers.

Maybe they only bust 5 year olds......

They're ridiculously cramped inside. The MCT is literally in the passenger seat.

I thought our Chargers were bad.

I want to see a removable type of light bar that can stand the high speed. Right now my car that I use for patrol with a removable light can only stand a max speed of 80 mph, before it starts flapping.

Alanarchy 10-19-2017 11:38 AM

Pretty bad-ass! Wondering if they`ll have push bars?
