Big Lunge/Kick When Park to Reverse

This started happening only recently when I take the car out of park and put it into reverse. It does not feel healthy for the transmission/gearing. It happens on positive/negative/even grades and even when I put the parking brake on before taking my foot off the brake.

Anyone know what this is based on the description or do you need a video?

I notice it'll do this if you shift as soon as the car is on while the RPMs are a little higher. After I turn on my Camaro I let it run for 10-15 seconds, the RPMs drop to around 700-800 or so, then shifting is smooth without a lunge.

I have noticed many drivers shift in gear w/o holding the breaks. That's not good for tranny, always hold breaks firmly and then shift, and then wait till it's in place, then let go.

Does this happen after you've let the car run for a good minute or so?

tmastictb91 is correct, you have to let your car idle for a little before putting it in gear. You have to remember this car has a ton of torque which only require a little gas to feel it. My rule of thumb has been the needle has to be below 1k before putting it in gear, typically it it between 700 and 900 rpms before I start moving.

What? This car won't even let you get out of park without pressing the brake.

OP - i have the same issue but usually only on start up

My 15 Silverado Has the 8spd and I was having this SAME problem. Took it back and the Dealer Reprogramed the Tranny computer and its been fine for 10K miles, So, that's what I would do.

always let it idle down first-its in open loop.

Think he is referring to people that will shift from reverse into drive while the car is still rolling backward.

This happens when the car is in park and I shift it into reverse to back out of a parking spot, every time. I've tried letting it idle down but it makes no difference whether I wait 10 seconds or 10 minutes. I can't remember but I think it started after the dealer performed the (attached - top) "transmission control model reprogramming" recall (#33110). I honestly can't remember if it was doing it before though. Either way, sounds like I need a trip back in.

This sounds like too much of a coincidence to not be related to that recall on the transmission control module they performed on my car. Tranny seemed to be fine before. Hell of a "fix"! Haha

I've noticed this as well. Drags1998, can you explain what the dealer did? Is there a TSB, recall or anything that we can refer to so this can be done without fighting with a dealer???

Drags1998 12-06-2016 06:34 PM

There was a TSB on My truck, I'm Not sure about the Camaro. This sounds to much like the problem I had with the truck to be something different. The A8 in My Camaro has been GREAT, Hope yours gets better!!!!
