Edmunds: 2016 Camaro styling to be evolutionary, not revolutionary
Published 3/10/14 - via Edmunds
Just the Facts:
DETROIT — The redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will adopt an evolutionary styling theme drawn from the current-generation car, Edmunds has learned. The 2016 Camaro will share a rear-wheel-drive platform with the Cadillac ATS and CTS, sources said. The updated Camaro will arrive at dealerships sometime next year. General Motors has taken a page from the playbook of the 2015 Ford Mustang in the redesign of the Camaro. That is, change all the sheet metal, but don't create a radical departure from the current styling. The end result is that while both the 2015 Mustang and 2016 Camaro have been extensively re-engineered under the skin, the exterior styling is evolutionary, not revolutionary. "The difference between the existing and redesigned (Camaro) is not drastically different," Edmunds was told by an industry source who has seen the new car. "It looks like a worked-over current-model Camaro. It is on a different platform, so that is a significant difference, but when they modified it to be on a different platform, the styling did not change that much." The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is expected to debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Meanwhile, the 2015 Mustang, the chief rival to the Camaro, goes on sale this fall. Mike Albano, a Chevrolet spokesman, took issue with the description of the 2016 Camaro's styling. "We won't discuss future product, but I will tell you that any Camaro we do will have expressive design and will evoke the passion the previous-generation Camaros have done," Albano told Edmunds. "Camaro always has kind of moved the heart and the next generation will do the same thing when you see it on the road." The current-generation Camaro went on sale in 2009 as a 2010 model. With the redesign, Camaro assembly will move to General Motors' Lansing, Michigan plant, the same facility that produces the Cadillac ATS and CTS. The Camaro is currently assembled in Oshawa, Ontario. The two new pony cars are expected to set off a battle for sales supremacy and bragging rights. Last year, GM sold nearly 80,600 Camaros. Mustang was close behind with around 77,200 sales, followed by the Dodge Challenger with about 51,500 sales. With the redesigned Mustang hitting showrooms first, Ford's pony-car sales could surpass Camaro this year. Edmunds says: Why tamper with success? Since the Camaro's current styling is successful, an evolutionary approach might be the best choice. |
Awesome! Thanks Tran!

I saw the "Chevy Exchange" on Facebook post something along those lines this afternoon and wondered where they got the info !
Thanks for posting that ! I think it's a wise move too....don't mess too much with perfection :) |
Well...its what we want, same type of styling but lighter and a little more compact. :pop2: Until then I will wait.
|
Yup. Waiting to see if I keep mine, or, get the new one!
|
Oh man oh man oh man. Better start saving for a down payment!
|
I hope it's enough of a change to be fresh.
If they are right, the reveal is less than a year away. We should be seeing mules or camo'd prototypes soon. |
Really can't wait to see it now.
|
Yea, I gotta see this ... GM came so correct with the Camaro 5 and new Vette, I think the bar is high. Hopefully they don't go too crazy with ideas.
|
Redesign
Hopefully the cowl induction hood stays ( ZL1 style) with technology enhancements.
|
I pray to the camaro gods that they don't use the transformer concept going around

I hope you are wrong, I'm not too thrilled by that new transformer Camaro. It looks to me to be using the C5 sheet metal. |
Well if it looks similar I may have to trade in.
Guess I'll wait a bit longer before diving into the engine. |

I have to take this this way
The people that are talking about the 16 , don't know what they are talking about The ones that do know , aren't talking , period . |
ohhh i cant wait!!!

sounds like it's similar to the C5 to C6 downsizing theme with conservative styling changes
|
Definitely not going to trade in my car this year. Gonna wait for next year and maybe just have a 2010 and a 2016!
|
So who is getting fired for talking about the 6th gen Camaro or letting a blabber mouth see it first so he can talk about it. I for one hope it is revolutionary not evolutionary everyone loves the 5th gen look and everyone freaked when they tweaked it with the 14 model year refresh and that was a bit evolutionary refresh. I hope its more revolutionary with past Camaro cues. Let the great 5th gen design stay unsullied in our minds.

please be 3,500 lbs +/- V8 model... please oh please oh please....

If it does sell well it'll only mean there's alot of people who will buy anything with a pony stamped on it. |

Let's face it. The descriptions of 'not drastically different' and 'looks like a worked-over current-model Camaro' ARE applicable to the Transformers car. Is it going to look exactly like that? Of course not. But could it look just enough like it to give a basic idea of the new car to the typical movie viewer? Maybe, just maybe. I actually don't mind the appearance of the Transformers car, so this wouldn't be deal-killer for me if it happens. |
...without argument, an interview was conducted with Fitz as I believe almost a year or so ago where this topic point was discussed in question format about the next Gen, it was stated it would be evolutionary, rather than evolutionary...it's reserachable....
|
I just hope they made visibility a bit better.
|
If they ruin it,
I'm buying a vette Either way, gm plz take my money |
Over all most people love the new Vette. We weren't crazy about the changes they made to the 2014 Camaro but the more I see it the more I like it and even though some of us would have liked the Z/28 be a little more user friendly, it's an incredible car. The people at Chevy are doing some great things and are a very talented group. Give them a chance, I'm sure in the long run we will like it.

Isn't it the same thing ? |
Sounds sorta comparable to the 1st gen. The 69 has all new sheetmetal, but some people still get them confused with the 67/68 because the overall shape is similar.
Looking forward to the new design! Ill get one if it comes in Laguna Blue. |
I'm looking forward to seeing this and hopefully getting one. I got my fingers crossed that it keeps it's mean/aggressive look!
|
Pretty cool to finally see more magazine information (more like speculation) on the next gen Camaro. I love this stuff lol.
I wouldn't put a ton of stock into this though...its hard to say right now what might happen, but it all sounds reasonable to me. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but I pray that Chevy keeps the "muscle" in this muscle car. Don't go soft on us like Ford did with the Mustang. Make the hood look muscular, keep the shoulders in the rear, and give it an attractive/aggressive front fascia. Give us another car that looks like nothing else on the road....not a sporty version of your family car (ahem...Fusion Mustang) I have no doubt the car will be lighter and a blast to drive. I have to admit...I'm almost afraid I'm going to like the car too much and then I'll have to find a way to convince the wife I need one of these lol. If I hate it, then I can just keep my current car which I love lol. |
Lighter means faster.
|
Hopefully they don't screw it up like Ford did with the Mustang, I'm not a fan of the new design. It looks too much like a Fusion.

I'm willing to bet the Camaro SS is gonna get the new LT1 engine. It's very efficient and powerful. I also bet GM is gonna make an LT2 or something like that to put into the C7 Vette which would give it a bit of a power bump in 2016. Similarly to what they did with the C6 going from the LS2 to the LS3. That should keep the Camaro from running to closely with the C7  |
Someone would post it, might as well be me....................

If you think about it, the transformers 4 Camaro looks like the final product of the 6th gen, IN THE SENSE THAT, they slow are making us adapt to the modifications done in the '14+.
They changed the tail lights and the front fascia to make it slimmer looking. We hated it, but most of us got over it. Next... they just change the front end, maybe sides a bit and keep the new tail lights. In other words: STEP 1: Take 10-13 Camaro, change tail lights and slim the front fascia STEP 2: Minor modifications to tail lights and drastic front end change + minor body modifications STEP 3: 6th Gen http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/cro...i-3_600x0w.jpg http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/cro...-11_800x0w.jpg I really hope that I'm wrong, but we wont find out till we see it :bonk: |
