2011-2015 question
OK so I owned a 2012 camaro and regret trading it in for my truck a few years ago, though they gave me way over listed price for it, almost 8k over list, so I did it.
Now I am looking to get a 5th gen as a second car and have a question for people with them. I am looking at convertibles which I mention only because of the limited models they had. I am looking at used obviously and at LT2, SS1, SS2 models. I really want the leather seats and HUD so the LT1 is out. That being said, from what I read, the issues that the '11 had and to some degree the '12 were mostly fixed in the '13-'15, including getting rid of the top rubbing issues, at least they have a higher reliability rating in several magazines Also I see them with mileage from 11k to 172k, with most in the 95-105k range with corresponding prices. I guess I have 2 questions...In yall's experience with the older cars ...Assuming all things equal as far as getting them checked out mechanically Are these cars dependable for the most part after and around 100k? Also are the '13-'15 the better ones to get as far as reliability? |
If you’re getting a convertible, absolutely 13-15 with the 13 being the prettier version.
Plenty of forum members have exceeded 100k with little to no issues. I’m only at 58k on mine but very little of it is still stock. Regardless, I love mine. |

Concur. Earlier versions had some issues. I've had no issues with the top so far on the 2013. But, it hasn't even turned 3K miles yet. Now I just jinxed myself.

1SS would have cloth seats only the "2"s came with Leather seats.

I have a 12 SS/RS and dont know of this top rubbing thing, my top still looks brand new...I'll have to look it up. I have 32k on mine and LOVE every time I drive it. as far as mileage, it depends on ow hard someone was on the car along with how well they maintained it. You can have a car with 32K on it that has been beaten into the ground, and a car with 100K on it that has been pampered....due diligence by you is the key in finding what you are looking for! (and how much money you want to spend)

my 2015 2LT has gone 81,000 miles.needed a new a/c evaporator ($$$) and i did the front rotors and pads last year.no issues other than that.

I would only buy one with over 100k miles if the oil was really clean in it or it had maintenance records for oil and transmission fluid changes. Other then that I rebuilt my engine at 170k miles and it was it fantastic shape. So much so that all the bearing clearances used standard sizing and the cylinders honed out will only .005 removed. The only thing I wish I would have done was get a catch can sooner because the heads and piston tops were covered in cooked oil. But if you are going to get one I would only get a 2012 or newer because of the things that were fixed in 2012. I think that an engine and transmission with around 100k are proven reliable but not really sure after that just depends on maintenance.

thanks
