But just imagine if the next Camaro V6 does indeed end up weighing even less than the V6 ATS....you'd be looking at a 3,3xx lb Camaro V6. That would be friggin amazing. You'd be looking at a car that can run mid 13 quarters...or at least easy upper 13s and low to mid 5 second 0 - 60 sprints. Bolt ons would put it damn close to today's SS.....all for mid to upper 20K. :drinking:

Now just imagine the SS weighing in at 3,500 to 3,600 lbs.

If they make a four cylinder the base engine expect to pay a premium for the V-6. I doubt they would improve performance without raising the price.

V6s weigh more than I4s, so it would probably be a lot more like 3500 lbs than 33XX

I'm pretty sure its been stated the ATS 4 cylinder weighs in at well under 3400. So I was saying that if a v6 camaro weighed less than a v6 ATS, then being at or under 3400 might b possible...which would be fantastic.

Heck under 3500 would still b awesome.

HumanWiki 01-09-2012 11:34 PM

6L90 MYD -- 240 lbs w/ 300 mm converter (couldn't find the E)
TR-6060 MG9 -- 145 lbs

Fair enough. I'll hold back on guessing on V6 weight until we know more about the V6 ATS

FenwickHockey65 01-10-2012 06:05 AM

Pretty good chance a V6 ATS weighs somewhere right around 3400 lbs.

hopefully by then they'll solve the problem of hp lose do to the rear end and hopefully they wont make it a boat. maybe we'll compete with the mustang performance wise this time. i still love my camaro though lol just a lil dissapointed in the weight/ hp losses

I've seen plenty of dyno runs for the Camaro and I haven't noticed the losses being any more substantial than other RWD cars. Except for the ones running on the 87 octane fuel table that is, but the fuse pull fixes that.

So lets have a little fun with numbers shall we: (won't be perfectly accurate I know, but close enough I guess)

2010 Camaro V6: 3750/312 = 12.02 lb/hp
2012 Camaro V6: 3750/323 = 11.61 lb/hp
2010 Camaro SS: 3850/426 = 9.04 lb/hp

2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0TT: 3350/270 = 12.4 lb/hp
2013 Cadillac ATS V6: 3450/318 = 10.85 lb/hp
2013 Cadillac ATS-V V6TT: 3550/400 = 8.88 lb/hp

2015 Camaro V6: 3450/323 = 10.68 lb/hp
2015 Camaro SS: 3550/420 = 8.45 lb/hp

For grins: 2011 Mustang 5.0: 3620/412 = 8.78 lb/hp

What about TQ figures??

2010 Camaro V6: 3750/278 = 13.49 lb/tq
2010 Camaro SS: 3850/420 = 9.12 lb/tq

2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0TT: 3350/260 = 12.89 lb/tq
2013 Cadillac ATS V6: 3450/278 = 12.4 lb/tq
2013 Cadillac ATS-V V6TT: 3550/400 = 8.88 lb/htq

2015 Camaro V6: 3450/278 = 12.4 lb/tq
2015 Camaro SS: 3550/400 = 8.87 lb/tq

2011 Mustang 5.0: 3620/390 = 9.2 lb/tq

Makes you think. Of course some of the numbers above are assumed, but anyone who follows the TT builds for the current 3.6 know that hitting 400 crank horsepower is nothing, so really this lb/hp number could be much less...and the TQ down low would be tremendous with the TT setup. Of couse, if they do fit a DIV8 in there, it would be just as exciting.

The 2015 SS could easily be made to hit that 'magical' 8lbs per hp number, and the V6 could also easily dip down into the 9s. I know there is much more to this than numbers and speculation of course, but from the above figures, it almost seems like the V6 will benefit more than the SS will.

Wow, I think when the day comes we see the next gen Camaro, and if it is as exciting to look at as the 5th Gen, I may just have to make the switch! (never thought I'd say that). Hope it comes in a nice blue!

HumanWiki 01-13-2012 10:51 AM

I'm already sitting at 5.833lb/hp and 6.26lb/tq

You guys hatin on the 6th generation concept have no clue what a muscle car looks like. Muscle cars are finally getting back to that muscle car feel. I personally feel like the car looks great. And to whoever said that the other muscle cars like the mustangs and challengers are going to a more modern look really? The mustangs are dead on the 1st gen of turdstangs and the challenger is an almost mirror image of its first generation. Come on gear heads get a grip. Hatters... Gonna hate :chevy:

They are going toward a more modern look, but it will be in their next generation.

That's what I meant the mustangs and challengers are very similar to there earlier gens but with a modern twist. Which I like. Just like this new 6th gen concept. It resembles the 2nd gen but has a more modern look. Which I like JMO I would like to have one of these

...and you're taking this drawing as being the de facto Gen-6 Camaro? Because it said so, right there?

I said it it was the concept for the 6th gen in an earlier post. And there are actual pictures of the concept too.

1. bring the z28 back 2. reduce the weight on these cows, it's the heaviest f body ever(would be better on GM's fuel conservancy as well) 3.the design is doing great leave it for now...

I kind of like that drawing. It like a 2nd and fourth gen mashed together with a modern twist.

There is no 6th gen concept.
