Best AWD car for the money?

Hello all,
Thought i would get some answers and opinions from some car guys and girls. I'm going to sell my old winter beater Grand Prix and want to get something AWD. If I had around $10-$15k to spend on something what would it be? I hate getting stuck in the snow and it would only be a winter car. Thanks in advance

Car, truck, or SUV?

For a car, imo nothing beats a Subaru.

Yep, if it's just to get around, find a Forester or an Impreza.

I guess I'm thinking car or truck around that price range. I don't have much knowledge on AWD systems and their maintenance or life if that makes any sense

Here's a little info/compro about Subaru's AWD system. My wife's 2013 Subaru Legacy does better in the snow and ice then my 1 ton Cummins Ram with a 5" lift and 35" MT's.

For your budget you can take your pick at just about any used Subaru. Manuals transmissions come standard and they offer a turbo on just about every model you can think of and the 265hp 09+ Impreza WRX and Legacy GT really haul the mail with a 13.3-13.5@102mph bone stock.

Subaru. Anyone who tells you different is lying out of their ass and is in denial.

Honestly my little patriot was hands down the best winter vehicle I ever had. It was a full time fwd/AWD system, but you could lock it 50/50 just by pulling a small lever. they can be found cheap too, though i would suggest not going any older than a 10 model because they got a nicer interior for 09 and they seemed to work out the few issues it had by 2010. My was an FD1 with a manual transmission and i also got high 20s/low 30s in mpg in mixed driving.

Get yourself a WRX wagon. The Subaru symmetrical all-wheel-drive is just incredible in the snow. It is like driving a snowmobile. On top of that, the wrx is pretty fun and has plenty of space for anything you need. The wrx is that rare combination of fun, utility and affordability.

Subaru Impreza + 100000. Stick tho, Autos limit the TQ to the rear tires (or at least they used to) and you may spin going up steep hills. Plus there cheaper.

For a beater an older Outback wagon is good and makes a decent hauler. If you want something sporty, check out a 92 to 96 Subaru SVX. I had a 94. Watch the 94s, some of them were FWD. it's a sports car with a 3.3l boxer 6 full equipped (for the time). It had AWD, and 230hp n/a. There only flaw was the tranny. It wasn't designed to handle the power and would over heat causing damage. An easy fix was adding an external tranny fluid cooler.

I would go with Subaru, Audis are good, but maintenance and minor crap drain your wallet. 4x4 trucks are good, but the light rear end can surprise you if your not used to one. Explorer, Blazer, Grand Cherokee are all good but will be more expensive to run between fuel economy and repairs. All of this is based on $15k price tag.

WRX FTW

snow tires > AWD

Well, I'd say Audi does...however that isn't in the price range the OP is talking about.

Then again, there are some older used Audi's that would serve well for that price. As someone else said, there is maintenance to think about as well.
