Ford Vows to Put Chevy Camaro in its Grave by 2024!

Straight from Ford's mouth...err..I mean Authority....

Really?

We had not heard of anything like that around here before.

Why would ford waste the time? Gm’s marketing department is already doing the work for them!

V8 Firebird 10-03-2021 03:11 AM

They aren't totally winner. Why they put Mustang nameplate in an electric crossover ? That already makes sense.

Gm does better and respects Camaro although Camaro is in unknown future.

GM is doing this on their own. Don't need Fords help. How many threads we going to get on the Camaro ending by 2024?

Challenger is outselling Mustang this year. Crazy times.

They are - Challengers are starting to get a little too common for my liking. But, they certainly are selling and people seem to like them. Its not a car for me due to not being a Mopar fan and the fact that the car is more a cruiser than a sports car.

But, cant argue with the formula. Its working for them.

So fordauthority stole the rumor printed as truth from gmauthority and expanded upon that "truth" with the mustang killed the camaro.
correlation == causation
By that logic we can say that the Chevy Malibu is such an outstanding sedan, it caused Ford to drop their entire lineup of sedans.

Ford does not need to do anything. Mary Berra and the rest of the GM team are making this happen all on their own!

Dave [Pericak, chief engineer of the Mustang] signed a poster of a Boss 302 Laguna Seca for me, "Al, Best Wishes, Dave Pericak." You can see it if you walk by my office, and I've written below it, "Keep them in the rearview mirror because they will try to overtake."
- Al Oppenheiser
GM left Camaro to bleed out slowly when they reassigned Al to BEV development in December 2018. Ford still hasn't overtaken the Camaro that has been static five model years.

Ford vows?

In some ways it's nice Camaro sales are low. You see Mustangs all over the road, not quite like that with the Camaro.

"GM Authority notes that GM pulled its development resources from the Camaro a couple of years ago, and thus, it likely won’t get getting any sort of rumored upgrades such as the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing‘s supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, which produces 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, or GM’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension. Increasing emissions requirements aren’t working in its favor, either."

Fuking car "journalists". You can get both the LT4 engine and Magnetic Ride Control currently in a Camaro.

I feel abused that I actually opened the link. GM and Ford just don't do that so I was quite curious.

Of course I find nothing even close the what OP posted AND no new information other than someone at Fordauthority actually thinks the Mustang is doing "quite well" which it isn't.

The entire segment is dying a slow and agonizing death.

And for those that keep blaming GM Marketing for this, you simply can't accept the fact that of the 3 in this segment, the Camaro has the most tradeoffs. You can't market a car with a crap rear seat (GM's own admission at launch), the least trunk space (Sorry it's not useable) and of course visibility (easy to measure but the fanboys won't accept it). GM knows this. GM knows the tradeoffs they made.

As I've said, GM made the very best Left Handed baseball glove, maybe the best ever. And you all think that they can just go and set up a plan to sell it to Right Handed players.

GM rolled the dice on taking input only from the "Camaro Faithful" and lost. That message was make an even better Gen5 Camaro and GM succeeded on this in a HUGE way. It just wasn't the sales volume answer.

And it's really funny how so many think the Chief Engineer was "reassigned" to EVs. More than likely he was offered a career opportunity to what is most likely GM's future products and took it. The Camaro Chief Engineer role was filled and there is currently someone doing that job every day. That's usually how these thing roll at that level.

I'm not clear on your point. The LT4 in the Blackwing is different and has higher HP. And the latest Generation Mag Ride is getting rave reviews. So again an advancement over what is in the Camaro. Adding both of these would improve the Camaro, no?
