Bottom View of ZL1

Hi all,
Trivial question, but the bottom view of the ZL1 that used to be on the Chevy website doesn't seem to be there anymore.
Does anyone have that photo? Just curious about the exhaust and access to change oil, etc.

What are these two squared boxes that I put a red box around?

Look like resonators to me. Usually used to remove exhaust drone out of the cabin

Those are huge resonators and very close to the cats. Generally, I've seen them look more like a fat tube towards the end or right after mid pipes.

If I remember right, that's about the size and location of the resonator that was on my 89 Probe GT Turbo. Well it was probably a little closer to the center of the car than those, but same location in relation to the exhaust components, in between the cat and muffler. I can remember asking someone if it had 2 mufflers on it because the resonator was so big, it wasn't much smaller than the muffler.

Those are a second set of cats.

..can't wait to see what optional AM cat back exhausts will be available for the ZL1(has to be a significant weight reduction)..

That crossed my mind, but since they are made of a different material and are a different shape than the primary cats, and look almost identical to what I remember the resonator on my Probe looking like, I assumed that's what they probably were. I've heard of vehicles with secondary cats, but I've never seen one that I know of.

That's what I was thinking. That muffler looks like a freaking gas tank from an older car!

Agree on that muffler. The space and weight it must be ... Gotta be some after markets ready to eat that up

G37Sam 12-27-2016 09:17 AM

They're secondary cats if I'm not mistaken

Toons 12-27-2016 10:45 AM

Those look like the "high flow" aftermarket cats that I installed on my 2010....does anyone know the specs on these, is there any reason to change these out anymore with an aftermarket version?

oldman 12-27-2016 11:17 AM
