ZL1 CAI - Anybody?

I know that it takes some time for the aftermarket to get parts out for new models but sometimes they get sneak peeks to have products ready when the new models hit the streets. With that said, has anyone heard from RotoFab or anyone else on impending CAI designs for the new ZL1? This is a must have in my opinion.

I'm sure the aftermarket guys will have them the second they can get their hands on one to measure up etc.

Sadly, most of my track opportunities prevent that mod but my Gen 5 sure benefited huge from CAI. Guess I won't have to test the warranty waters this way :(

I'm very anxious to hear of the tunes that will become available for this beast. Tune, CAI and cat-back numbers to the rear wheels is going to be an exciting read.

If it follows the same pattern of the 5th Gen ZL1, we'll probably see some "tune only" intakes in the next few months. My guess is the "no tune required" intakes probably won't hit the market until late spring or early summer of next year. If I remember correctly, it took Cold Air Inductions almost 2 yrs after the 5th Gen ZL1 hit the street before their "no tune required" intake was available.

What I'm waiting to see is if the stock intake on the Camaro LT4 performs as well as the stock intake on the Camaro LT1. If it does, then the cold air intake manufacturers are really going to have their work cut out for them. A small gain in hp up top over the stock box is not going to make me jump all over a $400 cold air intake.

apples to oranges. N/A vs Forced Induction. aftermarket intake on forced induction motors are gonna give more power. same with E85 conversion.

I agree. If there are no unnecessary bends, ribs, noise canceling tubes, or baffles in the stock setup, there will be little to no gains to be had beyond a better flowing filter.

RotoFabs on LT4 SC LT1's are showing 39HP gains, and speculation is the stock intake is much more restrictive at higher power levels. Bodes well for CAIs on ZL1s.

ROTO-FAB is out and ready for our 2017 ZL1s

K & N has one too but it's way more expensive

I'd like to hear some feedback on the Roto-Fab, or maybe HallTech will produce one. The one for the z06 is crazy, they say 50rwhp.

Here is some 3rd party info on the Roto-fab system! Our preliminary dyno testing yielded a conservative 26 HP gain. The results from this forum member are right in that ballpark:

"I did an independent test Wednesday on the Rotofab intake on my 2017 ZL1 A10.
Stock was 555hp 536tq, changed intake
and made 2 more pulls. 580hp 548tq.
25hp gain. No tune or anything else."

Hoping to get some dyno sheets from this test for our records.

do you have a curve graph, just to be sure no less power in lower band. Are you planing to make one with glossy carbon fiber like ZL1 hood?

I talked to Kyle at CAI, Inc. a couple of weeks ago about sending back a replacement filter I didn't use. They told me they are coming out with their ZL1 CAI in 60 days. I remember that hoopla back in '13 from the 5th gen that went on for almost a year. As much as I like CAI, I went with Rotofab for the first time. Not a bit disappointed. Hope CAI does release theirs sooner rather than later this time.

CAI should have theirs out soon. They tell me it will be a closed box design. Roto-Fab seems to be the intake to beat right now. K&N is out but I've seen reports where people bought the K&N and weren't happy, switched to RF and noticed a much better design and it was better with IATs. Weapon X also has one out but it costs much more and I'm not sure how well it works. It looks good tho. Another company has one out but it is a tune required system and I'm not sure anyone has gone that route yet. I'm sure GMPP will copy the CAI design once it is available and re-brand it and sell. So I would say if you're looking for options you would probably have to wait until some time towards the end of the year. But it does seem like companies are a bit slow to make intakes for this car.

If/when CAI comes out with theirs, look at it before buying it. While I like the looks of CAI on my Gen 5, their intake tube is made of silicon/rubber for that version. I've been told they could partially collapse and restrict airflow under the right conditions. After hearing that, I emailed the company to ask if they made a rigid replacement. They told me they didn't make one.
