17 and 19 side-by-side

I normally don't park my Z in this part of the parking lot, but I saw this '19 show up today and parked next to him for a quick photo.
It's the first I have seen a '19 with my own eyes.
I have to say, I don't dislike the taillights. I like mine just fine and would not have redesigned them, but that's just me.
The front is a big no for me though. I just don't understand the reasoning behind the change. I couldn't get a side-by-side of the fronts unfortunately.

MackSteelPrivateEye 11-07-2018 12:40 PM

The 17' rear looks sleaker. But its a matter of getting used to.

MackSteelPrivateEye 11-07-2018 12:43 PM

I remember when the 6th gen came out, people were complaining because the taillights didn't look like a Camaro like the 5th gen did. Now Chevy went back to a similar 5th gen look and people don't like it. Like I said its a matter of getting used to.

Whocares05050 11-07-2018 12:45 PM

Hate the 19

Soleil 11-07-2018 02:45 PM

Very nice pic.
The back of the ˋ19 looks much higher although it isn’t.

aldrinknows 11-07-2018 02:46 PM

Not a fan of the 19 taillights.

Rock-It Man 11-07-2018 02:50 PM

Not a fan of the spoiler on both these cars. Why isn't spoiler delete an option?

Sorry, but after having seen the 19's in person at a few dealerships and a few on the street, there is not one part of the redesign besides the A10 transmission that comes close to competing with the 16-18 6th Gen. Those tail lights are absolutely hideous as is the front.

I believe this is because he has a ZL1 and the 19 in question is not a V8, its a 4 cyl or 6 cyl, so it has different suspension.

the '19 at Camarofest all had cameras in the rear spoiler. I cant clearly see it in that one though, base model? I dont see a badge either.

Airfuel 11-07-2018 03:25 PM

The 17 is hideous! No wonder they didn’t sell!:pound:

AZCamaroFan 11-07-2018 03:28 PM

I've seen them together too. the 2016-18's are much smoother and cleaner. the 2019 looks odd .

I believe it is an optical illusion due to the cut line (character line) in the rear bumper cover...

Yes indeed. I suddenly dislike the 19 rear bumper too now :D

427K 11-07-2018 04:45 PM

That is a good comparison picture! The 19 would look much better with the dual exhaust tip!

Anyone know the point of this? Or did they just say, let take a look at our tooling and see the cheapest mold we can change so we can have a mid cycle "enhancement"? I wonder if it does better at not creating so much of a backdraft that pulls dirt and dust up onto the back bumper?

1hprush 11-07-2018 06:49 PM

Side by side really tells the tail...haha!

I am happy with mine, the smoked clear lens just makes it better.

That 19 is higher. The Z sits a bit lower (and has wider fender flares in front) than the LT.

Lethal Z 11-08-2018 06:21 AM

The ass of the 19 looks like ass. :barf:

Corvette_Mike 11-08-2018 06:24 AM

Very cool pic! I like all year Camaro's. Congratulations to all the 2019 owners!

Dsm2cobra 11-08-2018 06:24 AM

Sorry but the one on the right looks like a Lexus and the other a spaceship. Neither design is going to age well. The more I look at any 6g the worse they get. These cars are great performers but not lookers.

GelflingEssence 11-08-2018 07:39 AM

The '19 refresh is all an elaborate strategy to sell more ZL1s.

Nice looking ride!

biker2k 11-08-2018 10:10 AM

hate to keep hating but like others I never noticed the bumper also changed and its terrible, no style whatsoever, I just don't know what they were thinking

Silverado57 11-08-2018 10:17 AM

If I never saw the 17, I would not dislike the 19. In fact, I don't dislike the 19 now. It's just different, not objectionable to me.

Smokin19 11-08-2018 10:32 AM

"HATE", it seems we use this word for everything nowadays.
Whatever happened to constructive dialogue?
Flame away.

Yup! And the word hideous.

People really need to make themselves feel better about what they purchased.

This forum could be so much better.

We strongly constructively dislike the 19 rear end.

What’s the politically correct version of “ugly” so that snowflakes won’t get offended? :D

You must have me confused with your generation. We didn't hide behind keyboards and the words "politically correct", "snowflakes", was not in Websters yet, that came from your generation.

Trust me, I don’t like this either, that’s why I was ironic :)
But that’s another topic, sorry for hijacking

martelds 11-08-2018 12:18 PM

Sorry but's compared to the 17 the 19 is BUTT UGLY Literally. It's so much more block looking instead of sculptured. I'm sorry it's a huge fail!

Ignore the 'Yankee' troll, lol, he is frustrated he can't afford the new 19 in Canada.

Your ZL1 is mean looking car, and personally the 19 rear is better. In person the chiseled lower rear fascia looks great, as do the taillights. I like the pre-refresh too.

Nice try, troll. GTFO with your 3 posts.

Perhaps we should translate a little better:

UGLY = tail lights looks like thy were glued on from another car. Think back to the model car you put together as a 5yo. Remember how you didn't trim the plastic nubs, and the tail lights stuck out a bit? Here you go, 30 years later, on a production car.

HIDEOUS = The lower crease line even with the bottom of the license plate draws your eyes upwards. It means that the perceived "centerline" of the bumper looks higher on the 19 than the 17.

UNORIGINAL = The license plate area (and tail lights and lower crease, to some degree) looks more like the Malibu than a Camaro. Check it out. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chev...edan-rear-view

I guess I could go on to the front of the car . . . but I've made my point.
